SAN JUAN CHURCH

The earliest churches built on the island in the 14th century are characterised by the fact that they resemble fortresses due to the defensive function that they served. This is the case of the churches in Santa Eulàlia, Sant Antoni, Sant Jordi and Sant Miquel.

The church in the town of San Juan is dedicated to Sant Joan Baptista (Saint John the Baptist), and it was authorised to be built in 1726, as the churches in Sant Miquel and Santa Eulàlia were too far away for the residents of this area to reach.

In 1732 building was completed, and it was a vicarage that depending on the Santa Maria parish in Ibiza. It was declared a parish in 1785.
