Ibiza Rocks is tuning up.  Not only have they bagged greats like Arctic Monkeys or LCD Soundsystem, but they’ve also got a sixth sense for discovering bands that, in the near future, will make the headlines.  This week it’s the turn of two extravagant sextets.

Cansei de Ser Sexy and The Go! Team make a perfect double act.  Both groups are sextets.  Both boast impressive female presence.  Both make a wild fusion of electronic rock and hip-hop, with plenty of ‘cut and paste’ and samples.  In their hands, pop is like multi-coloured plasticine, which stretches and shrinks, which glues and adapts itself to all possible shapes.

Cansei de Ser Sexy (CSS) are the better known over here.  With just one record on the market, they owe their success in the indie world to the magnificent track ‘Alala’.  A single for which any band would give their right arm and which should form part of any electronic rock anthology, or how to use lo-fi electronics to punk up a pop song.

CSS are Brazilians, five girls and one lad – from Sao Paulo – but fortunately they don’t just play drums, nor do they smile from ear to ear, nor move their butts more than is strictly necessary.  Their video clips are hard to forget and their attitude is clearly clownish.  Their extravagance is written on their faces.  Let’s say their appearance is difficult to define.

For their part, The Go! Team are a marvellous group.  These Brits (although half the members are of Japanese origin, make brilliant musical cocktails of three and a half minutes.  Everything is possible in their songs is possible:  old school rhymes with American cheerleader chants, funk bass with toy pianos, lucid psychodelia which comes through in their concerts and in the group’s image.  Their video clips are great fun – look for them on You Tube – and their Web site is worth a visit.

On 10th September they release their second album, called ‘Proof of youth’, and they’ll surely present the new songs in San Antonio.  You can’t miss this.  The date is 10th July, in the Bar M in San Antonio.  It’s organised by Ibiza Rocks and doors open at 20:00 hrs, although the music won’t start until a while later.  Don’t forget, you can buy your tickets at Ibiza-tickets.com.
