THE SEABEAD IN IBIZA

In Ibiza, we’re lucky to able to boast some exceptional areas of seabed, a good part of which have been declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.  There are many spots where one can enjoy this spectacle and there is an abundance of scuba diving centres…

Diving is relaxing and it opens your mind at the same time.  You have to know how to look in order to see, and the skill is picked up over time.  To see is merely perceiving through the eyes and doesn’t require any involvement or effort.  To look, on the other hand, is to direct your gaze on something in particular and it implies will, knowledge, search and intention.  Sometimes, some beginners say they’ve seen nothing because there is no life.  The first may be true as it’s possible that they were too preoccupied with controlling their equipment, their buoyancy, the depth-meter, the compass or with following the group that they don’t realise that they’ve set their hand down next to a star fish or that an octopus has flicked their flipper.

It’s clear that the sea is full of life, most of which well camouflaged for the sake of survival. To know the island well it’s vital to visit these marine treasures: the fauna and the flora, rich and diverse, which transport us to a magical world, full of colours and shapes, which never cease to surprise and delight us.
