THE CURIOSITIES OF SPRING IN IBIZA

The sign of Aries (the Ram) has started to govern the skies and will reign for half a year.  It brings the best weather of the year and encompasses spring and summer.  From now on, sheep lie down on their right hand sides and thus call upon the good weather.  They will lie this way until 4th September, which will see the entry of the domain of the Scorpion and other harmful and poisonous creatures.

In bad weather, sheep and a lot of other livestock sleep on their left sides, until the Ram reigns again and the good weather returns.
The almond blossom has been blown off now and the first ‘almendrucos’ (tender green almonds) merge with the stunningly beautiful Ibiza landscape in spring bloom.  So many times we’ve heard how the frost has killed the almonds and the cold damp has blackened the tiny ‘almendrucos’.

But not so this year and the future almonds, which we’ll be able to enjoy raw or toasted come autumn, glow in splendour under the Ibiza sun.

The fig trees are also starting to dress themselves in their huge leaves, which will serve to provide a very pleasant shade during the hot months of summer.
